Working with Kūpuna has been a challenge for me in the past. A common mistake with beginners is getting the `ili `ili in the wrong colored holes and forgetting what color they are during their turn and whose turn it is.
With my new designs, I eliminate that challenge by helping identify the colored holes. White and Black colored bracelets or scrunchies help remind them what color they are.
Whose turn? That one is still tricky, but having some markers, like keys, to slide back and forth can help them remember.
Mixing them with high school students also helps Kūpuna and Students build relationships and confidence going forward.
It's good for Kūpuna to play games like Kōnane to keep their brains stimulated and active. Eh, You Play Kōnane? Well, it's time to play with your Kūpuna.
Mahalo to Laulima no nā 'Ohana for allowing me to work with Kūpuna and the ladies of Kaua'i High School Key Club for being good sports and supporting the experience.
